What do YOU think? Resilience. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger? We each have our story and I wonder, do you believe that saying? I do, when I am far enough away from the trauma or trying times that we had gone through. But when you are in it? Geesh, looking for the lesson when you are in the thick of it is not something that feels good.
Think of a hard time in your life (mine would be parts of my childhood) and how you got through those times. What were the coping strategies you used? I wrote in my journal. For hours. Today, I have 23 filled journals of my greatest fears, wishes and worries that I didn’t want to burden anyone with so I wrote them all down.
Children are not born with coping mechanisms, they are a learned behavior. If we want our children to be able to get through the challenges they are faced with in their day to day lives, exposing them to a variety of regulation strategies at an early age is very helpful. One way this can be done is by modeling our own strategies. We can also use children’s books to help like The Fruit Salad Friend. 40% off with the code GRIT The story character Chloe is faced with a few tough situations in school and she chooses to calm herself down and solve the problems she is faced with.
We are also offering the book Sunny Side Upbringing at 40% off as well with the code GRIT. This month by month guide walks parents, caregivers and teachers through routines, traditions, games, books and more they can use in the home to teach positive character.
