Maria goes live every other week, taking turns between her author Facebook page and her private Empowering Kids with Character Facebook group. On September 12th, Maria shared a unique and out-of-the-box idea for teaching children about inclusion. You can watch the video here.
Maria shared that one of the favorite ways she teaches inclusion is through books! Sometimes when you think of inclusion, you think of children with special needs. Maria selected books with children who are different. They might not have a specific disability, but it raises the question of how can we include them? The books she shared are:
- Shaking Things Up: Fourteen Young Women Who Changed the World by Susan Hood
- Two Speckled Eggs by Jennifer K. Mann
- Leo The Late Bloomer by Robert Kraus
- Skin Again by Bell Hooks
- Stellaluna by Janell Cannon
- Dude! By Aaron Reynolds
Be sure to head on over to the Empowering Kids with Character Facebook group where they will be discussing Inclusion the whole month of September!
