Maria goes live every other week, taking turns between her author Facebook page and her private Empowering Kids with Character Facebook- group. On June 27th, Maria shared a lesson, for teachers, that you can save for back-to-school! You can watch the video here.
Maria shared her book, The Potato Chip Champ, and a fun activity to go along with the book, created by a friend of Maria’s over at Moments a Day, Personal Growth for Families. The activity is a fun word search that you can have your child(ren) complete after reading the book. If you’re feeling extra motivated, you can make homemade potato chips (or you can just buy a bag – no shame in that!) while you read the book.

The book really talks about Champ who wants friends, but goes about it in the wrong way. He’s selfish, lies and just wants everything for himself. Walter, on the other hand, has a lot of friends, but has so little. He has a broken, dirty bike and Champ is trying to figure out why everyone loves Walter so much when he has so little and what he has isn’t the best. The book is empowering in showing children that you don’t have to have a lot of STUFF in order to have friends and get far in life – it’s all about being a good person! The book is all about character, being kind to one another, and empathy – perfect for back-to-school.
