Hi everyone! It’s Mandy (mother of 2 – a 5-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl). I am blogging on Be the Difference, recapping some valuable tips from Empowering Kids With Character – The Show!

Gratitude Game! - mariadismondy.com

On November 8th, Maria shared a fun game that will help your children learn a little more about gratitude! You can watch the video here.

The game isfrom TEACH BESIDE ME and called Gratitude Game: Pick-Up Sticks;

SUPPLIES:

OR

  • Items that have the colors that are listed on the paper (like straws or crayons)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Mix up the sticks/crayons/straws
  • Have the child close their eyes and pick up a stick
  • Match the color of the stick to the matching dot on the paper
  • Have the child give the answer to what the color is asking (Ex: name a thing you’re thankful for)
  • Make sure you take a turn too!

This is a simple, yet effective, game that can be played with young children and whenever you have free time or even at the dinner table! Gratitude is such an important trait to teach our children – last week Maria shared that there are so many health benefits to being thankful/grateful. Among them are a decrease in blood pressure, strengthened immune system, increased compassion and decreased loneliness! All from simply being grateful!

Maria also shared that she has gratitude practice that she does daily – she writes down 5-10 things at the end of the day in a journal. It helps her stay mindful throughout the day, of what she’s thankful/grateful for. I absolutely love this idea AND Maria has been doing this since October, so it’s not something you have to do just in November!

Remember that Maria alternates these videos between her author page and the private Empowering Kids with Character page, which provides more ideas on the monthly theme and also support from fellow parents and educators!
