Hello readers and thank you for stopping by my blog Be The Difference. I am a children’s book author and mother to three young children. I am dedicated to spreading the important messages in my books to children around the world. I strive to make a difference in my own home by spending time teaching my children character traits using age appropriate activities and quality children’s literature. I am sharing these lessons with you, week-by-week so that you can do the same. Let’s provide our children with tools they can use when they go out into the world and face difficult situations. Let’s give them a chance to grow up to be Problem Solvers! I would love to connect with you and continue this conversation—please see links at the bottom of this post— Maria Dismondy
What is Hope?
Hope can be defined as the desire for something combined with an anticipation of it happening.
From www.psychologytoday.com
What is a Goal? A goal is something that you are trying to do or achieve.
What is a resolution? A decision to do something or to behave in a certain manner.
A goal is the end result and the resolution is the process of deciding on the goal and figuring out how to get there.
Book I am using with this lesson:
How I used this book to teach about Hope
Book: Read or listen to the book with your child.
Discuss: I think Hope and Goals go hand in hand. You have to WANT to meet your goal in order for it to happen successfully. Vashti doesn’t think she can be an artist but with the encouragement of her teacher, she begins to thrive. Ask your child what they think made Vashti feel good about her work and what made her continue to create? Did she hope to get better? Do you think she had a goal to improve as an artist? At the end of the story, Vashti asks the little boy to sign his artwork. Why do you think she did that?
Craft: Noise Makers using household items.
Snack: New Year’s Dippers
Product I’ve created to go along with this lesson: Goal Setting and Resolution Planning Sheet for kids, parents and teachers
