#TakingCareThurs-Swimmy

About the book-Swimmy by Leo Lionni

Deep in the sea there lives a happy school of little fish. Their watery world is full of wonders, but there is also danger, and the little fish are afraid to come out of hiding . . . until Swimmy comes along. Swimmy shows his friends how—with ingenuity and team work—they can overcome any danger. With its graceful text and stunning artwork, this Caldecott Honor Book deserves a place on every child’s shelf.

Character trait that this book teaches-Friendship

Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between two or more people. Friendship is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. Friendship has been studied in academic fields such as sociology, social psychology, anthropology, and philosophy.

My review of the book:

I love how this book is simple and to the point. Swimmy is sad. Swimmy finds friends who are in danger. The friends problem solve together and the friends are all happy in the end!

How you can use this book to have a discussion with your children:

Talk about a time your child felt the emotion of being scared. What did they do to feel better?

Ask your child about how their friends have helped them before. Do they have an example of helping a friend?
